Winter Grit v Rock Salt….What’s the difference?
We are coming into the chilly season now, mornings are frosty and we are having to get up extra early in the darkness, to leave time to scrape our car windows.
With the frosty windows come slippery pathways, customers are already planning for the winter and ordering in their stocks of salt for pathways, and we are always being asked what the difference is between Winter grit and rock salt, so here is a quick guide to help you compare the two products and help you best to decide which one to get.
Winter Grit - This is a mixture of rock salt and sharp sand, the salt will melt the ice and the sharp sand helps this to spread further, after the thaw melts and takes the salt with it you will be left with the sandy residue.
Rock Salt - This is a pure salt without any sand mixed in, it will work more effectively on the paths you sprinkle it on but it will not go as far, as the ice melts the salt will dissolve with it leaving no residue or memory that it was there.
