Local Gravel Products

Here at Rivar Sand and Gravel we believe that gardens that utilise local landscaping materials can look majestic and beautifully natural.

In Berkshire we are blessed with exquisite gravel options which add personality to an exterior space that’s lost its charm or could benefit from revitalisation.

Something of a saviour when you consider landscaping materials, gravel can be used in a variety of ways and in any number of places. It’s a cost effective solution for everyone, whether they are keen gardeners or reluctant landscapers, because as a landscaping material we’d say that gravel is one of the easiest to install. We supply gravels in bags for domestic and commercial landscaping jobs.

By choosing a local gravel product you’ll be drawing the landscape in to your garden and front exterior space by harmonizing the area within your boundary walls with the greater area.

  • Paths.
  • Driveways.
  • Mulching - pots and flowerbeds.
  • Edging borders.
  • Compliment features and ponds.
  • Around drainage pipes and over manhole covers.

Here are a few of our favourite local gravel products which you’ll find at our Newbury, Windlesham and Tadley depots:

20mm Toffee gravel is flint gravel quarried in the Thames Valley.

This landscaping material presents a warm golden tone which will add richness to an exterior even on the bleakest winter days. Think of toast or toffee and you’ll be imagining the right tones. It’s hardwearing and works excellently for paths and mulching and around water features.

For a more varied colour palate from your Thames Valley flint then we wholeheartedly recommend Moonstone Gravel in either 10mm or 20mm. You’ll have an eye-catching mixture of black, white, brown and grey stone which will show the planting to full advantage and compliment almost any paving option.

The 10mm Moonstone Gravel contains less brown tones so if you are working towards a predominantly monochrome design this could be your perfect landscaping material option.

The premium quality of Cotswold Chippings makes them irresistible. Locally sourced and angular, Cotswold Chippings are eminently suitable for a path, edging around flowerbeds and features. We think that you’ll fall in love with the cheering tones in the gravel.

It’s slightly crumblier that other local gravel so if you use it as a driveway landscaping material you’ll probably need to top it up more frequently but it’s still low maintenance.

10mm and 20-5mm South Cerney gravel is robust, semi rounded and multi-functional. It’s another of our inexpensive, easy to install and maintain local gravel options with excellent aesthetic appeal.

Its shape makes it less prone to wedging itself in a tyre or flying upwards and it’s easy to secure a foothold in icy weather. 10mm South Cerney Gravel is also known as pea gravel South Cerney Gravel.

Some suppliers incorrectly refer to South Cerney Gravel as Cotswold Chippings. If you’re ever unsure which you’re being given just check where the product was quarried.
