The official opening of the Victoria Park Rose Beds took place on 24th April.

After the big plant up session earlier in the year, which saw local businesses and community members all come together, the roses are growing beautifully in their new home.

On the 24th April, the Mayor of Newbury (David Fenn) officially opened the rose beds. He was joined by members of the Newbury Town Councils “Newbury In Bloom” committee, members of the “Friends of Victoria Park” group, local businesses Sun Dog Hire and Rivar Sand and Gravel who sponsored the rose beds by supplying labour and materials and some members of the public who helped plant the roses.

Two plaques have been placed at the rose beds to commemorate the planting of the rose beds and acknowledging all of the sponsors, Volker Highways, Tesco Bags of Help, Sun Dog Hire and Rivar Sand and Gravel.

The roses are starting to sprout into life and the lavenders which were planted around the perimeter of the beds are starting to bush our nicely. It was lovely to visit the plants that we planted earlier in the year and to see them starting to thrive in their new home.

It’s exciting to see the start of the 2018 Newbury In Bloom campaign coming to life. Applications are now open for this years competition, we are hoping to see more entries than ever this year and then we really will see Newbury in full bloom!
