Rivar Gets Green Fingers!
Rivar get Green Fingers at the Basingstoke Mencap Greenfingers charity gardens.
Rivar have been supporters of the Basingstoke Mencap Greenfingers charity for a number of years now so when they approached us with their latest project we were happy to be able to help!
The latest area to be developed at the large allotment site in Basingstoke was the nursery area, in order to supplement their income they hold a monthly plant sale where members of the public can come and buy a large range of bedding plants, vegetable plants and harvested vegetables along side lots of beautiful wooden items like bug hotels and nesting boxes all of which have been lovingly grown and created by the many talented service users.
The new nursery area is on par with any nursery garden centre, with lots of shelving to perfectly display the plants on offer soft gravel underfoot and covered areas to protect from the few days of blazing sunshine!! This really is a professional set up that is "growing" into a really important part of the work carried out here.
By selling the plants and vegetables service users know that the work they do here is really important and the ownership they have over that is what makes this place really special to everyone here including the many volunteers some of whom travel quite a distance to come and support which is a testimony to the friendly nature of this place.
Greenfingers also help other charities in the Basingstoke area including project Iris who help young people struggling with suicidal idealisation and self harm, within this peaceful space they hold green therapies and creative arts projects making this place more important than ever.
