Newbury in Bloom 2017

Newbury Town Council is launching its second year of our ‘Newbury in Bloom” campaign. After the huge success of last year’s event, they aim to improve the look of our town and to make it a more pleasant place to live, visit and work and with the competition element, a chance to win prizes and recognition for all who get involved in the campaign.

Rivar Sand and Gravel are offering materials in support of the Primary schools entries and projects for the coming year, for more information on how your school can benefit from this contact Rivar Sand and Gravel, details can be found on the "Contact Us" part of our website.

With a grant from the Tesco's Bags of Help campaign, Newbury Town Council hope to be able to support Community Projects who wish to take part and encourage group participation.

Newbury in Bloom features a competition with an additional two categories added for 2017, which includes Almshouses and Community Projects. They are also continuing their aim to enter the national Britain in Bloom competition in the next year or two.

The 6 categories for 2017 are:

  • Primary School Garden
  • Place of Worship Garden
  • Public House/Restaurant/Small Business
  • Allotment
  • Almshouses
  • Community Projects

“We were so pleased with the enthusiasm of the entries for last year’s event and this is an opportunity for everyone to help make Newbury look its absolute best” said Councillor Sarah Greenall, Chairperson of the Newbury In Bloom Working Group “We encourage everyone to take part and make the campaign even more of a success for 2017.”

Of course, encouraging better practice in our own competition can only help Newbury’s case when Newbury enters the Royal Horticultural Society’s national “Britain in Bloom” competition in future years.

The closing date for entries is 30 June 2017 and the judging for the competition will take place from 10 – 16 July.
