Landscaping Materials

Rivar Sand and Gravel’s friendly team has a question for you:

Would you rather see a natural gravel path, panel fencing and landscaping bark that acts as a mulch in pots and flower beds or concrete paths and walls plus bare soil with weeds poking through trying to find the sunlight?

To each their own, of course, but we think that many people would prefer the natural landscaping materials to manmade and bland alternatives.

Our products are sourced from near and far and we know that you will find the perfect natural landscaping materials whatever your garden design or budget. We have gravels quarried in the Thames Valley, sandstone paving from India, landscaping bark from all over the UK and timber sleepers that once worked on the railway network but can be yours at a competitive price.

We appreciate that different natural materials work better in some places than others. We wouldn’t recommend using certain gravels around a pond, landscaping bark with no edging or placing timber sleepers without effective drainage, so please use our expertise to confirm that your wants and needs are met by the products you select.

We’re happy to assist you and you’ll soon be as enthusiastic as we are about natural landscaping products.

Gravel is available in a variety of sizes, shapes and textures. The versatility is high.

Here are two exquisite examples of Thames Valley Flint gravels:

  • 20mm Toffee Gravel has a richness that could warm on the coolest and cloudiest of days. It lasts for years and can be used for paths, driveways, edging, mulching and around features, without crumbling.
  • Moonstone Gravel is stocked in either 10mm or 20mm. A mixture of black, white, brown and grey stones will add functionality to personality and show the flora and fauna to full advantage. The 10mm Moonstone Gravel contains less brown tones.

Another two natural gravels are:

  • 10mm and 20-5mm South Cerney Gravel is attractive, long lasting, semi rounded and it can be used almost anywhere. It’s kind to the pocket, easy to install and only needs an occasional top up. 10mm South Cerney Gravel is also known as pea gravel.
  • A similar and slightly crumblier local gravel product is Cotswold Chippings. For driveways, we’d recommend using South Cerney Gravel in preference to this.

Some retailers confuse South Cerney Gravel with Cotswold Chippings but we know which is which!

Sandstone paving products are ethically sourced in India and they will tempt you at first glance. Every stone is unique.

  • Modak Indian sandstone paving is predominantly red and brown.
  • Sandstone in mint is refreshing and lighter in tone than the Modak Indian sandstone paving option.
  • Artisan Mirage in York Green can be used indoors and outside so why not let your interior paving spill into the exterior.
  • Castle Grey Indian sandstone paving is hand-picked, cut and riven to enhance its appearance.

Landscaping bark is perfect for traditional or fairytale gardens and sleepers for raised beds, climbing poles and steps.

Add natural vibrancy and curb appeal to the dormant landscape around your property.
