Make Movement Outdoors Easier This Winter

What you need to get outside

Winter Garden Materials, Driveway and Pathway Gravel, Rock Salt

Picture of Rock Salt

As Christmas draws near the team at Rivar Sand and Gravel is working hard to help you stay safe when the temperatures plummet.

We offer solutions that make movement around the exterior of your property less of a challenge; from rock salt to melt treacherous ice to gravels which offer essential grip to porcelain paving for a non-slip material.

Creating a gravel driveway or gravel pathway delivers more than an attractive covering over an area. It could stop you from impressing your neighbours with an impromptu Torvill and Dean impersonation.

Not only does a gravel driveway, path or seating area boast excellent drainage, thanks to the chipping sizes and the irregularity of shapes any ice or frost which would find it easy to form a sheen over concrete and flat paving products won’t be able to form a hazardous layer over your gravel. More grip underfoot and wheel makes the school and work run simpler; at least to the end of your gravel driveway.

For the best traction we recommend a 20-25mm gravel; the smaller gravels compact more readily and so the anti-slip properties reduce. Chunkier gravel will serve you better.

There are several high-performance gravel pathway and driveway products available; sourced locally and globally for you to enjoy. Ask us about Moonstone Gravel, South Cerney Gravel and Green Basalt, to name just three products.

Customers visiting our Hare Hatch, Newbury, Tadley and Windlesham gravel suppliers love the affordable prices, the delivery or take away options and advice from our trained and friendly team.

Rock salt is a winter must-have

If you’re unfamiliar with how to use it effectively, ask us for tips.

Rock salt, also called road salt, is a brown-toast coloured product which is used as a de-icer over exterior surfaces. If you have paving slabs, concrete or granite setts to negotiate each day, this is a perfect safety choice because as it thaws the ice it leaves behind a gritty layer which means better grip for movement along a path or driveway. You can purchase convenient 25kg bags from us for just £5.40. That’s considerably more desirable than a fractured or broken bone. It’s wise to stock up prior to bad weather arriving; many people seek rock salt supplies once ice and snow takes hold and stock can run out, especially during “Beast from the East” conditions.

If you’ve heard of winter grit, this is not the same as rock salt. Winter grit contains sand which tends to remain on the ground after use.

Porcelain paving is a stylish, strong and practical landscaping choice. Most paving products are unable to offer slip, frost, watermark, stain and fade resistance whatever the season. Porcelain can.

In 2018, porcelain paving has become increasingly popular with professional designers, landscapers and homeowners. Why not investigate the polished finish, textured and wood effect product ranges? Use the same paving for interior and exterior continuity.
