Labour Saving & Landscaping Materials Garden Tips
Landscaping Materials, Gravel, Cotswold Chippings, Artificial Grass

Think of your garden as an extra room and you realise that it has to be a space that you want to spend time relaxing in.
At Rivar Sand and Gravel we know that people are busy and that time to tend to a garden is in short supply so why not take a look at some labour saving tips that can change your garden from a “spare” room to one you’ll use every day. The answer does not lie with concreting over the space!
Mowing the lawn
Mowing the lawn is perceived as a chore by many and if you don’t keep your eye on it a lawn can turn in to a small jungle.
Our suggestion: Swap grass seeds and weeds for an artificial lawn. We stock several real look artificial grass products and these landscaping materials have minimal maintenance requirements. Artificial grass will withstand children and pets running, jumping and playing on it and it lasts for several years.
An artificial lawn won’t go bald and it certainly won’t make you wonder if the tigers from the local zoo have made their home in the undergrowth.
Watering the plants
Plants can be thirsty; especially on hot sun drenched days in the summer and no matter how much we try it can sometimes be difficult to summon the energy to do an early morning or evening watering chore.
Our suggestion: If you have bare soil then you need a mulching product like bark or gravel to allow for better drainage and to help keep plants in pots hydrated. This doesn’t mean that there is no watering to be done but it lessens the task considerably whilst offering an aesthetically appealing finish to pots and flowerbeds.
An excellent example of multipurpose gravel as landscaping materials and for drainage can be found in the locally sourced 20mm Cotswold Chippings. These are buff-yellow, full of character, wonderfully efficient and durable.
Sweeping up gravel
Maybe you already have gravel installed in your outdoor space but it spills or travels so you need to sweep it back in to place often, too often for your liking.
Our suggestion: You can install edging within hours and it will allow you to enjoy your garden rather than be in a perpetual clearing cycle. You put peanuts in a bowl so they don’t spill on to the floor so isn’t it reasonable to offer a holding mechanism for the outdoor “peanuts?”
Another thought, if you have 10mm gravel would you swap it for 20mm which could travel less?
Weeds thrive in your garden
It’s a conspiracy; after weeding there’ll always be another weed lurking to annoy you.
Our suggestion: Either lay weed halting membrane, we can help you with this, so that weeds have trouble getting to the light or again, you’ll find that gravel is a friend in this work area.
Fact: Weeds pulled immediately after rain put up less of a fight.
We’re always happy to help you with more advice and landscaping materials.
