Audreys Meadow

Last year we were approached by the Greener Greenham Group who work in collaboration with BBOWT (Wildlife Trust) regarding a project to plant an 80m long wildlife hedge along the north edge of Audreys Meadow.

The hedge was to be planted with 345 mixed species of saplings provided by the Woodland Trust and needed to be protected by woodchip which is where Rivar Sand and Gravel would come in.

We donated 4 bulk bags of woodchip mulch which is chipped and then left for a few weeks to start breaking down before use, Helen our contact at the Greener Greenham Group was very impressed with the quality of the mulch and was very grateful for the donation.

Audreys Meadow is situated between ancient woodland and the expanding urban edge so is a lovely place to go and visit, with a variety of trees, lowland meadow and ponds there is plenty of wildlife to spot.

In 2014 BBOWT started managing the site for West Berkshire Council and brought this neutral grassland that has lost all of it’s wildflower diversity into a thriving meadow once more.

The meadow is named after Mrs Audrey Appleby in recognition of her work on the behalf of the Greenham community and set up the Friends of Audreys Meadow Group, they actively encourage schools and local community groups to visit and enjoy this beautiful place.
