On The Edge is the garden sponsored by The Centre for Mental Health, for this years RHS Hampton Court flower show. Frederic Whyte has drawn on his own experiences to design this thoughtful tranquil garden, with grey tones of foliage reflecting the darker times of mental health, with bright and colourful flowers breaking through.

The most poignant features of the garden are two small pools, one contains broken glass that reflects a fragmented image that show a fragile state of mind. The other is a clearer brighter pool with a single clear reflection which conveys a sense of calm.

As you walk through the garden you take a journey, starting on a claustrophobic spiky path that leads to a shady disorienting space, you emerge on a broad open staircase that leads you to a therapeutic space by the reflective pool where hope can flourish.

After months of designing and planning the three week build was underway, it was then up to Benton Landscapes and DJR Construction to build the garden, with only three weeks to transform a blank canvas and bring the design literally to life. They did not disappoint, the garden is beautiful and the design has translated perfectly into a living piece of art.

Rivar Sand and Gravel happily donated the turf that was laid in the garden, helping to create the tranquil space that design called for, we delivered the turf after a bout of rain and we are so impressed with how good it looks, the landscapers have done an amazing job and it is lovely for us to see our products being put to such good use!

Congratulations to everyone involved for winning the Silver Gilt Medal, you have certainly earned it.
